Hi Jazz Lovers
The planning for the 2018 festival is now well advanced. For those who did not get a chance to be with us in Feb 2017, we hope you will join us in 2018. To those who did
attend, we look forward to your attendance again in 2018.
The committee’s aim is to again present a friendly Jazz Festival by repeating the components of the 1st event. It is a low cost festival run by volunteers, provides 10
venues, includes a dancing venue, runs from Friday 5pm to Sunday 6pm, has a Saturday morning Street Parade and a Sunday morning gospel service. The majority of the
venues are within a short walking distance. Oh and there is a significant market on the Saturday morning.
The committee and Port Fairy community look forward to your participation at the Festival.
Survey Thank you and Changes
We received hundreds of responses from our online, program tear out and email surveys. Thank you for all your responses which helps to make this new festival even
better. Firstly you rated the festival very highly, thank you. You told us that you enjoyed the venues, the compactness of the venues, the bands, the town and the
organising, amongst many other things. The main things you did not like included, lock outs, some acoustic problems, the distance to St. Pats, but most people
responded that that there was nothing they did not like.
Some improvements we are looking at include; using one more larger venue, clashing most popular bands to break up the crowd, reconfiguring band location to improve acoustics, and providing some type of shuttle bus system to ease access to the more distant locations. We are also looking at a raft of more minor improvements from
the suggestions made in the survey. A big thank you for your responses.
We will not be including a marquee as a venue as the economics of having a marquee and the required
amenities/facilities are simply not financially viable.
The 2017 festival was successful due to all the participants. An enormous thank you to the army of volunteers who did the set ups, worked in the jazz office and worked at all the venues.
To the hundreds of musicians who volunteered their skills to the festival without any guarantee of a disbursement,
thank you for having the faith to come to this new festival. We had an array of sponsors which allowed this new festival to be established, a special thanks to you. To
all the patrons who trusted that we could put on a festival, thank you for coming to Port Fairy. To the committee of 11 who planned and made it happen, thank you. Finally to
the organisations, businesses and locals of Port Fairy that facilitated and made our guests welcome, thank you. Without this enormous effort and faith we would not
have this new festival. Thank you all.

Port Fairy has a wide range of accommodation including quite a few house rentals. Most accommodation houses have entered into the spirit of our festival and kept prices within reason, however some opportunist rentals have tried to capitalise on the festival. Our suggestion is that where a business significantly increases their price,
you simply seek other alternatives.
Our tips are:-
As the final shape of the festival takes place, we will keep you informed of the updates. We are currently considering two different venues from 2017, one overlooking the sea
and another reasonably big venue with good acoustics. Band nominations will close mid October and will be announced once determined. Sponsors are being sought and will be announced at a later stage. The final Newsletter will outline the Jazz Office location, programming and a list of all the other great activities you can do around Port Fairy. For those who are receiving this
newsletter by postal mail, sadly this is the one and only newsletter you will receive. But watch our web site.
