Anita Harris and Friends
Swing/Mainstream
Anita has been on the jazz scene for more than two decades. Once described by the English Jazz Journal as having a “fluid contralto which she employs to produce a delightfully creamy sound... swinging ably and effortlessly”, Anita and the boys offer a large repertoire of swinging jazz from the golden era of Broadway and Hollywood, and the verses they rode in on.
In 1993, Melbourne based vocalist Anita Harris first stepped onto the stage to perform to a jazz audience, and began what became an entertaining and celebrated musical journey. Performing in many private and public venues, jazz clubs and festivals, restaurants and wineries, it’s been a most enjoyable trip so far.
Once described by Australian Jazz Scene as “one of those very rare vocal stylists who have a wide appeal to a range of age groups and jazz preferences in her audiences” (Ron Spain, Australian Jazz Scene, April 2006), Anita has a large repertoire of jazz gems, a growing catalogue of recordings and some of Melbourne’s finest musicians on hand to work by her side.
