Emile Barnes Memorial Jazz Orchestra
Emile Barnes Memorial Jazz OrchestraNew Orleans dance hall, 1940s & 1950sThe Emile Barnes Memorial Jazz Orchestra features musicians from New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria and Western Australia, who love to play the old joyful rough and raunchy New Orleans dance hall style of jazz which was prominent in the 1940s and 1950s. We first played together at the Australian Jazz Convention held in Launceston in December 2002, and have performed regularly at Conventions and Jazz Festivals ever since. At full strength we have twelve members: 2 trumpets, trombone, clarinet/tenor sax, 2 alto saxes, piano, banjo/guitar, string bass, tuba, drums and female vocalist. Depending on availability, the numbers present at any engagement may range from seven up to the full complement.
